ERAI certainly has no right to involve themselves with counterfeit industry in China. They have to be more responsible and honest to their profession.

From inputs we received today from Design Support Group http://www.national.com, most of LM122H/883 supported and sold by ERAI club members are counterfeits and fake.This clearly indicates that ERAI never cares what their members sell or what kind of criminals are part of their business?
I believe ERAI can survive better even without involving so many counterfeit members. It is not necessary for them to support business of thugs from China.

Shenzhen alone brings in more than 25 billion dollars every year for selling various counterfeited products. Economy is raising, but there is least penetration of education and poor social standards. There is sudden upsurge of counterfeit electronic components in last five years, which is supported by many internet trading
websites. A chinese establishment where coffee was sold for less than a dollar five years ago, today it costs as much as 10$ or more in coffee shops. A part worth 1$ is today sold for over 50 $. Credit goes to international influence, specially american influence which corrupted them most. ERAI is no exception, they made all efforts to grab a piece of sweet hot cake. Yes, China is growing big with low quality products and counterfeits. Chinese Electronic component (broker's and independent distributor's market) market is basically evolved on scrap processing.
Show us any genuine parts with normal international pricing. Genuine parts do exists in China, but they are for domestic use and not meant for export.
True China is growing stronger and world capital of counterfeits and illegal business. It can be better if there are some controls from Government which is eventually going to come sooner or later. Then we will see limited 100 brokers in whole Shenzhen. Rest all 19900 street hawkers will be out.

3) Scrap from ship wrecks, old equipments, machines, old populated boards often find way in refurbishing industry.
4) Simlar copies and fakes are produced in illegal foundries which are often unreliable and has more failure rates , rejection.
Please beware that professional counterfeiters are good enough in matching data, finding cross, reprinting labels with proper bar code , tubes, reels,trays and fake packing.
They do give certain guarantee and take help of companies like ERAI to find proper marketing channel in developed and developing countries. Criminals often find some affiliation, trading platforms to boost their product image. (Just imagine a counterfeit windows xp copy also works, or a fake Omega, or Ricoh also works)

Parts with 883 ,JAN, 5962, JM38510, TD, SD, TE, HMQB, HM, extension are counterfeited by converting commercial parts by reprinting.
Commercial parts of CDIP, Metal Can, Hermetic type are purchased or imported by counterfeiters or removed from old boards which are converted by printing specified part number , repacked, labelled and same thing is exported to potential customer. These kind of parts pass in all kind of electrical tests. But fail only in critical industrial and hazardous applications.
Parts if subjeted to Eg. MIL-STD-810F or GJB548A tests there are likey chances they fail if tested to its full limits. Normally any broker would not test these type of parts if they pass visual inspection and electrical tests.
Another type of substandard mil spec parts however are original but taken out from old boards, scrap. Parts removed from old boards are cleaned, boiled in hot water, polished,repacked and reprinted with uniform date code. Short pins are made long with heat process to make it look like original and new.
The counterfeit parts in the military market are often not discovered to be faulty until the part is needed in the field. Counterfeit parts have caused difficulties in Iraq, counterfeit connectors were melting in the field, or aircondirtioners didn't work. According to Fairchild’s Parmenter, the counterfeit problem will continue growing as long as it’s profitable. “It’s like the drug problem. As long as you have people willing to buy it, and the profit margin is there, there will be people willing to sell it,” he said.
Rebranding and/or repackaging of substandard or defective semiconductor units to imitate higher-qualification units that command higher prices, inherent hazards are visible. Four major categories of counterfeited

Issue here is not who is doing what. But alarming situation is when world is at so delicate situation of handling counterfeits, ERAI is involving more and more chinese counterfeiters in its network.
What is the need for ERAI to enroll so many members unless if it not for money. It is obvious money play major role in running of ERAI, ethics, integrity, honesty are diffrent subject here for ERAI. ERAI is a valuable tool. I think it is odd that they are being accused of encouraging counterfeits when they have the smallest number of Member users in China. They report counterfeit sales every week and are working with the US Government. If anyone gives ERAI proof they received counterfeit parts, they do take action. If you can document your case, they will help you.

I did a lot of work for the ERAI in a previous job helping them a lot, for no charge, just helping out other members, doing some research for them if the problems were in my region.
When I started my own business I asked them one time at the very beginning to give me not a reference or anything but a nod of approval to a customer, (2000 dollar order) and they refused Point Blank !
ERAI policy, if you haven't been a company for six months they will not say anything about you. Once I had been around for six months they were on the phone straight away looking for a membership and a subscription.
Needless to say I told them where they could shove it.
This has become a very difficult business due to the notorious behavior of the Chinese. However, the problem is much larger than the brokers who get caught in the cross hairs of the Chinese destruction of what used to be a very credible business.
I have felt the pain and I can offer advise. If it's to good to be true, it is. Stay away from dream orders that ultimately become nightmares. OEM's need to realize when a part is hard to get, price is less of an objection as delivery. What I'm saying is, if you're being quoted a part that's a long lead time or obsolete and your target is being met or even beat with a "week to 10 days" delivery, guess what, those parts are coming from China and you ARE GOING TO GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
OEM's also need to help in the inspection and discovery process. I am sure many disasters could be avoided if the OEM's work a little closer with the (legitimate) brokers concerned with providing quality parts and services. More rigorous inspections need to be done done, quicker turn around on discovery and approval, samples, and help from the original manufacturers would make a tremendous difference and help us all to reduce our risks.
Simply blaming a broker who may have got caught in a bad situation isn't going to stop China from finding ways to hurt this business. Smart decisions and partnerships need to become part of our everyday business plans. OEM's are still going to need parts that are discontinued, go through die revisions, or come with longer lead times than they can cope with. A legitimate broker can help them resolve some of these issues helping them avoid redesign or lose customers. However, the OEM's need to come to the reality that this is no longer a buyers market and that China actually does exist. Ignorance or basing all their purchases on price is putting OEM's in harms way and unfortunately there are a lot of brokers out there that share their ignorance or are looking to cash in.
